Tree Farm

Top: Kohl's
Boots: Steve Madden

On Saturday my family went to go cut down a Christmas tree.   It's been a very long time since we have done this.  My parents have been setting up the fake tree for the past several years.  I guess they just decided it's time to get a real one again, since my little sister is older now.
Everything I wore is old, except the scarf.  I got that from Forever 21 a few weeks ago and I'm pretty sure they still have it.  Luckily, it was pretty warm that day so I didn't have to wear a big, bulky coat.  It was a good opportunity to wear this faux leather jacket, also from Forever 21.  I went with my "life is too short to wear bad clothes" philosophy.  I would have just worn a hoodie, gym shoes, and jeans, but I think that wastes an opportunity to wear real clothing and have a bit more fun.

Thanksgiving Day Parade

Coat: H&M
Leggings: H&M
Sweater: Sheinside
Boots: Kohl's
Mittens: ASOS
Purse: Marc by Marc Jacobs

Happy Thanksgiving all.  This morning I woke up early and went to the parade on State Street, in Chicago.  I have been there once before, but don't really remember.  It was pretty fun, but very cold.  My Thanksgiving outfit consists of these leather panel leggings from H&M and this Sweater from Sheinside.  I know it's hard to tell what my sweater looks like.  It was too cold to take my coat off.  It just has a bunch of colorful geometric designs that kind of look like ice crystals.  I'm sure I will wear it plenty more this winter and maybe in another post.  I hope everybody had a nice Thanksgiving!

Style Diary 1

          Hey Friends and Followers,
I felt like posting something a bit different today.  I wanted to talk about some of my personal style thoughts.  A few days ago when I was at my internship, I was thinking about where my obsession with fashion began.  I think I first started to really pay attention to clothing when I was in elementary school.  I loved Mary-Kate and Ashley movies.  I mainly watched the mystery movies.  They used to wear the cutest clothes.  I remember trying to recreate some of their outfits.  Then when I was in late elementary school and middle school I discovered Limited Too.  I previously liked clothes, but didn't really care about style until then.  From there, it developed into an obsession.  I watched a lot of Lizzy McGuire.  I was inspired by her style.  I though it was interesting how she wore things that were a little bit out of the ordinary.  She mixed prints before it was even a "thing."  I used to read a lot of fashion magazines in High School, and still do.  A lot of spreads in Teen Vogue embody that same kind of unusual pairing of pieces.  I used to try to come up with different combinations of outfits that were a little bit unexpected.  Sometimes they were really cool and sometimes I just looked crazy.  After thinking about fashion more I have realized that it isn't so much appearance that I love, but the clothes themselves.  It's the fabrics and silhouettes that really interest me.  It's the little details that I adore.  I love the beauty of texture and patterns, along with fit.  That's probably why I never really cared much about other aspects of appearance, like makeup.  This is also why I chose to concentrate on fashion design rather than another facet of the fashion industry.

Aki Flower Print

Boots: Pink & Pepper

Jacket: Forever 21 (similar Here at H&M
Scarf: Anastasia Chatzka
Umbrella: Marc by Marc Jacobs

After losing my favorite Cynthia Rowley umbrella (featured in this post) in New York City a few months ago, I had to get a new one.  I really wanted one that has some sort of interesting pattern. I love floral so that's probably what drew me to this one.  Plus, I love the way the panels switch off between large and small floral print.  Umbrellas are one of those accessories where there isn't much emphasis put into the design.  There are pretty much just a few patterns available.  It's really hard to find the perfect one, or even one that's mildly original.  I was in a hurry to have one for Fall, so I cut my search short and bought this one online from Saks Fifth Ave.  I do really love this one though.  Even the most expensive, designer umbrellas are pretty boring.  I'd love to design umbrellas at some point in my career.  I feel like there is a lot of missed opportunity there.

Blazer/Scarf/Stripes Combo

Blazer: Forever 21
Shirt: Ralph Lauren
Jeans: Forever 21
Scarf: Target I think
Boots: Kohl's
Rings: Forever 21

First off I'd like to point out that I changed my Trend of the Month to November so take a look at that   Here or on that page.  Overall this month has been a pretty exciting for me.  I started interning for a fashion designer in Chicago, Anastasia Chatzka.  You can find her store in Wicker Park or online at  Also, Taylor Swift's new album came out a bit ago so that has been keeping me distracted from this cold weather.  Thanksgiving is coming up too.  I've been looking forward to getting a break from working.
As for my outfit, the inspiration was layering.  As i've said many times before, I love stripes and floral together.  That's why I chose this Ralph Lauren striped shirt to wear with the scarf.  I wore the scarf because it matches the blazer.  I also love how the blazer looks somewhat nautical, which ties in the stripes.  I really didn't put as much thought into this outfit when I put it on as I am now.  I really love layers.  I think they give a lot of interest and dimension to an outfit.  They keep it interesting.  I'm sure you have noticed how much of my clothing comes from Forever 21.  I know it's a lot.  I have been trying to get better about not buying too much from there.  It's really hard though, because everything is so affordable and I always find things I like.  Forever 21 is really reliable too.  If I am looking for a particular trend piece, I can normally count on Forever 21 to carry it.  And of course just when I decide to shop there less the nearest mall to me opens one up.  It may be hard to avoid.

Floral Pleats

Dress: Target
Hat: H&M
Boots: Forever 21
Tights: Vera Wang
Purse: Thrifted
Necklace: Can't remember, sorry

When I wear this dress I feel like I'm from another time period.  Not literally, but it feels like it should be vintage, but it's not.  It's just from Target.  That's why I bought it.  It's hard for me to wear vintage clothing because they are almost always too big.  I know that sounds weird because it seems like everybody used to be skinnier in decades before ours.  Nearly every piece of vintage clothing I own had to be altered.  That's why I stopped thrifting for the most part.  I don't have time to alter everything.  I bought this hat to wear with this dress last fall from H&M.  It's the only bowler hat that I have ever owned.  I wasn't sure about it when I was shopping because I don't feel very confident wearing hats.  I bought it because I own very few hats and wanted to try wearing more.  Eventually, after trying it on over and over, I have grown to love it.  I also really love the color for fall and I think it goes perfectly with the darker petals in this dress.

After the Waves

Coat: H&M

I went to the beach two days after the crazy, powerful winds that ruined Halloween.  If you don't live around the Chicago area that you probably don't know what I am talking about.  There were incredibly strong winds on Halloween that created very large waves on Lake Michigan.  They totally covered the beach and some roads.  Basically it was the worst possible weather for wearing a costume.  Anyway, at the beach I wore my new plaid scarf and this coat from H&M, that I got for my birthday.  I'm sure that this scarf and coat will be included in more posts throughout the remainder of this cold weather.  They are both super comfy.
