Michigan Camping Getaway

Silver Lake State Park

This State Park is such a unique location.  It consists of sand dunes on the edge of Lake Michigan that span almost as far as the eye can see.  I always describe it like a desert in the sky.  There are hardly any trees on top of the dunes so it's really barren.  There is a section of the dunes that is blocked off for people to ride jeeps, dirt bikes, and other sorts of vehicles that I don't know a lot about.  It's pretty entertaining to watch though.  We camped here for our first night.  I don't recommend camping here because the campground gets pretty busy and loud.  There is also this lighthouse on the edge of the park.

Traverse City

This is one of my favorite towns in Michigan.  I love the way the building are located around this little river.  There are a bunch of cool bridges and paths.  There is also a beach right in town and a marina.  The shopping is really great too.  I got a super cute pair of pink sunglasses from here.

Fisherman's Island State Park

I had never been here before.  This is where we stayed the second night.  Although there isn't that much to do in this State Park, it's a really good place to camp.  It's located right on the beach!  The campground was pretty secluded and quiet.  If you get lucky or make a reservation you can literally camp right on the beach.  One thing to keep in mind is that this place doesn't have showers or electricity.  It was perfect for one night.  There is a tiny island located right off the coast.  You could probably visit it with a kayak or paddle board.  Unfortunately, We didn't have either of those.

I love Charlevoix for so many reasons.  It has a beautiful downtown area, great food, and overall nice vibe.  This is as far north as we came on this trip.  One of the reasons we wanted to come here is because Bridge Street Tap Room has a mac & cheese grilled cheese sandwich that is delicious.  I have been twice before and couldn't get it out of my head.  We also found this beach in Charlevoix.  I haven't been here either.  The sand it some of the whitest great lakes sand I have ever seen.

Sleeping Bear Dunes National Lakeshore

Sleeping Bear Dunes is literally one of my favorite places on earth.  It consists of a bunch of super high sand dunes, trails, beaches, and a shipwreck.  The main attraction is the tallest dune that is 450 feet high and right next to Lake Michigan.  It may not look that high in these pictures but that's usually the case.  Pictures can't capture all of the beauty of a place.  The second to last picture shows the scale a little bit better because you can see people climbing it.  I have been here twice before but never went down until this time.  It is really time consuming and not recommended.  It's best to come here at sunset.  Sadly, it was cloudy this day.

Glen Arbor

Glen Arbor is nestled right in the middle of Sleeping Bear Dunes.  It's a tiny town with shops and restaurants, just like all of my other favorite Michigan towns.  It's a good place to get food when you are visiting Sleeping Bear Dunes.  I recommend checking out Cherry Republic.  Cherry Republic is a super unique store that has a huge variety of products, all made with Michigan Cherries.  You can find, cherry wine, cherry soda, cherry ice cream, candy, chocolate covered cherries, jam, salsa, etc.  You can get free samples of most of it.  They also offer free wine tasting!  There are other locations in Charlevoix and Traverse City.  This first building is my favorite boutique, Cotton Seed.  I've found a few nice things there in the past.

SWEATSHIRT: Souvenir from Saugatuck  (From a different trip to Michigan) | JEANS: Forever 21 | T-SHIRT: Uniqlo | PURSE: Michael Kors | SANDALS: Forever 21

I planned on the weather being typical summer weather but it was a bit chillier.  I ended up having to wear my jeans and the same sweatshirt most of the time.  That's why I am pretty much wearing the same thing in every picture.  I wanted to blog a few new outfits but it was just too chilly.

TOP: Forever 21 (thrifted) | SHORTS: Zara | HAT: Forever 21 | SANDALS: Forever 21 | PURSE: Souvenir from Honduras

Hey guys! Hope everybody is having a good weekend.  I'm going camping this weekend in Michigan and wanted to leave you with an outfit post for when i'm gone.  This outfit is super summer-y.  I love the way this top and shorts go together.  I've had all of these items for a while now.  The top is the only thing that hasn't made an appearance on my blog in the past.  I actually thrifted it a few years ago but it's originally from Forever 21.  I love the little flower detail that is on the top.  It also happens to match my Zara shorts perfectly.  I actually have to sell it and these sandals because I am moving.  They will be available on my Poshmark shop @fancyfashcastle.  Keep an out out for posts from my camping trip.

Slides from Zaful

I've been loving this style of shoes lately.  They are both from Zaful.  They have a lot of options of fashion slippers.  These are my two favorites.  I really want a pair like the first one.  I know they are going to be super trendy this fall.  I also feel like they are a great transitions piece for summer going into fall.  They are the kind of shoe that you can just slide on but they aren't sandals.  I also love that both of these are black because they will go with so many things.

Visiting the Chicago Botanic Garden

3:25:00 PM Andrea Ryan 3 Comments

The Chicago Botanic Gardens is a massive garden oasis that is split up into several smaller gardens.  Each one has a different theme with different types of plants.  I had never been before, which is kind of crazy because if you know me, you will know that I absolutely love gardens.  I had actually never heard of it before until recently even though I live just outside Chicago.  There is just so much to do in Chicago but I feel like this place gets overlooked.  It's also not very close to downtown.  It was truly a magical experience.  There are way too many pictures ahead (just a warning).

Visiting the Botanical Garden is one of my main travel recommendations for people visiting Chicago.  In my opinion, it's much better than going to Navy Pier, or The Bean.  It's pretty far outside the city but it is so worth the drive.  We were there for around 5 hours and still didn't see the whole garden.  It's split up into different sections and each one has different types of plants.  My favorite gardens were the rose garden and the Japanese garden.  Since we didn't see everything I will be returning before the weather gets too cold.  Stay tuned for a part two!

ROMPER: Zaful | SANDALS: Forever 21 | PURSE: Kate Spade (similar) |
SUNGLASSES: Asos (similar)
This romper that I wore is from Zaful.  I love everything about it.  It's this pretty white fabric that is sheer with little dots.  It has lace trim on the top and bottom that adds a lot of nice detail.  My favorite aspect of it is the cold shoulder style, with the ties to keep it up.  I just think it is so pretty.  There are lots of Alice McCall vibes happening.  I ordered a size up to be sure it fits and it ended up being a bit too big.  Just so you know, it runs true to size.
